The River Shannon

Ireland's longest river - on your doorstep

The River Shannon is the longest river in Ireland and one of the most navigable inland waterways in Europe. Stretching over 360km from Co. Cavan to the Atlantic, it passes through a chain of loughs, towns, and open countryside.

Banagher sits at a central point on the navigable Shannon - a well-established stop for cruisers heading north to Lough Ree and Carrick-on-Shannon, or south to Lough Derg and Killaloe. Shamrock Marina puts you in a good position for either direction.

  • Lough Derg - 40km south
  • Lough Ree - 60km north
  • Athlone - 30km north
  • Killaloe - 65km south
